With such a wide range of shades available such as lilac, amethyst, violet, raspberry, plum or lavender, purple makes a fantastic wedding color choice. The added benefit of purple is that there are so many flowers that come in some shade of the color. Scroll for purple wedding flower ideas and tips.

In a floral arrangement, statement flowers are usually the largest, most eye-catching blooms. They are also typically a round shape. Purple statement flowers that work well for wedding florals include these blooms:

Secondary flowers are similar to statement flowers in shape, but they are smaller in size and thus play a different role within a flower arrangement. Once the statement flowers draw the viewer’s eye, secondary flowers help to shift the focus through contrast, which creates movement and interest in the design. These blooms may also be more cost effective, depending on the flower variety chosen. Some popular purple secondary flowers are here:

Filler flowers often have the role of either the textural element or the budget “hole-filler” (or both) within the floral arrangement. Purple filler flowers for wedding arrangements may include these flowers:

Due to their taller stem and unique spike or branch shape, height flowers may not be needed for every type or style of arrangement. However, height flowers are indispensable when creating a large scale arrangement or can be used to carry an important color to the edge of the floral design, if desired. Purple height flowers for wedding floral designs may include the following:

While I would say that purple is a unique or less frequently requested wedding color choice, there are many stunning color combinations that incorporate shades of purple. A monochromatic color palette is limited to one hue. This can be flowers of the same shade, or a mix of lighter and darker shades.

An analogous color palette incorporates colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. For purple, this would include shades of red (or pink), and blue.

A complimentary color palette draws on hues that are directly across from each other on the color wheel. So purple and yellow are complementary colors to each other. To create an even more unique color palette, consider purple’s secondary or tertiary complementary colors.

If you have clicked on any of the links in this article so far, you were take to the website FiftyFlowers.com. I have used this bulk flower company for many years now and consider it the best flower market for DIY couples. They consistently offer the most affordable prices for flowers (available to those without a business license or wholesale account). I also regularly use their website for initial design planning and pricing research. To top it all off, they ship the flowers directly to your door!

If you are researching purple wedding flower options, you can search the “wedding color” tab as a great starting place, even if you plan to use a florist. But if you want to DIY the flowers for your wedding or other event, I can’t recommend them enough.

However, if sustainability and decreasing your carbon footprint is a priority of yours, please realize that Fifty Flowers (and most other online flower retailers I’ve seen) use large scale flowers farms in distant countries, such as Ecuador.

Using local, or at least American Grown flowers is a way to lower your carbon footprint, support American Farmers and source some truly special seasonal blooms for your floral designs. If this is important to you, I recommend researching local farms in your area on the Slow flowers Directory. American Flower Farming and floristry as a whole has been experiencing a resurgence in recent years similar to the farm-to-table efforts in the food and restaurant industries. The Slow Flower Directory allows you to search for farmers in your area and provides websites and/or contact information for member businesses with compatible values.
